Amarnath Yatra begins in June

The yearly Hindu pilgrimage to the Amarnath cavern shrine of Master Shiva , in the southern region Kashmir Himalayas, will continue on May 25 this season.

It will last until Aug 2, according to a spokesperson of the Shri Amarnath Shrine Panel (SASB) that controls the pilgrimage.

This choice was taken by the board at a conference organised in New Delhi on Sunday, information of which were distributed to the press on Sunday.

The sense behind having the pilgrimage for 39 times was the violent circumstances, which led to 107 fatalities last season, when the pilgrimage started on May 28 and survived until Aug 13.

The cavern shrine is located at a size of 3,888 meters above sea stage and has two tracks resulting in it, one from Pahalgam, about 100 km from Srinagar, and another from Baltal, 110 km from Srinagar.

The pilgrimage tracks complete through great hills and snow, including a extreme go up, and most of the monitor, despite approval of snowfall, is slick and complete of slush, creating it challenging for the pilgrims to settle the tortuous geography.

A normally created stalagmite of snowfall regarded to be an ice "lingam" or symbol of Master Shiva is the center of attention of the cavern shrine.

The belief goes that Master Shiva had read the story of growing old to his consort, the Goddess Parvati at the cavern. Thus, it is known as "Amarnath", which when converted indicates "Lord of immortality".

More than 630,000 pilgrims frequented the shrine last season, splitting all the past information, basically because of the features prolonged by the SASB.
